Blog sites spread like wild fire throughout the Internet world. The interactive sharing of personal thoughts, reviews, rants, raves, pictures or anything you want to the entire world or to a private group had such an appeal to many people that blogging is now one of the most popular activity on the Internet.

Blog sites are hosts where this information are uploaded to and shared to the world. Blog sites can be free or paid or in some cases private. For example, a certain company can put up a blog site where field employees can log in and just narrate their activity for the day. Blog sites are about building communities. Bloggers believe they are not baring their soul to the world but rather, sharing their thoughts and experiences to friends and neighbors.

The day may be coming when more books, in digital format or otherwise, may be sold online than in brick-and-mortar stores.According to an Associated Press poll released last year, one in four adults read no books of any kind in 2006. And those who do read prefer digital copies over the traditional hardbound copies or paperbacks. The Association of American Publishers says that the sales of ebooks have grown at a compound rate of 55.7 percent a year since 2002, compared with a growth rate of only 2.5% in sales of paper books. This is probably due in large part to the development of portable personal digital assistants (PDAs) and the popular Amazon product, the Kindle.

Blogs are often relegated to being merely online diaries diaries that contain irrelevant (and irreverent) rantings and ramblings. But for some, blogging can be used as therapy.

Bloggers can choose to set a tone for their writings. They can be optimistic and happy. They can also be pessimistic. They can be risk-takers. Or they can be conservative.

That is the freedom given by blogging. It lets people build on their character. Discussion threads let other bloggers (or readers) participate, and a blogger gets instant gratification, with user-feedback.

I think you would agree that blogging is good for the soul. You just have to consider it as good writing and talking therapy. It’s like a support group, but this time, it’s online!

Tagging is the new way of organizing online material. Not only can you sort posts by category, but modern blogging softwares like WordPress let you tag your posts with different keywords. What’s great is that tagging can help you improve traffic!

Tags can help by helping optimize for search engines. Since these are keywords, search engines can better determine the relevance and importance of these words for your posts. More importantly, tagging makes it easy for social bookmarkers and blog search engines to crawl your site.

One of these important social bookmarkers and blog search engines is Technorati. Technorati is perhaps the biggest blog search engine, as it has millions of posts tagged every day. Other places where you can use tags are del.icio.us, Flickr (for photos), Digg, Reddit, and StumbleUpon, among others. There are plenty of other social bookmarking sites where you can sign up your blog for, but these are the ones that can substantially contribute to your traffic.

If you find yourself in the middle of deciding on buying a particular service or product, you can simply open your favorite web browser, and key in a few keywords. Most of the time, we purchase stuff without even reading what others think of them. But with the Internet you won’t have to purchase lemons anymore. Just check out user reviews online prior to purchase, or when choosing between brands and models.

We want to get good value for our money. Much of this can be done by checking out product reviews first. Sites like epinions and other similar review sites can be helpful, but you can also search through blogs for honest to goodness reviews.

WikiMapia has the “Tag a location” feature that enables contributors to append a”tag” to any selected location by highlighting the location with the use of the rectangular highlight, and then setting a language to be used, a title, and determining the type of location using predefined location types(restaurant, school, residential area etc). There is also space for optional notes and users can also attach keyword tags, images and even embedded YouTube videos, all of which appear on the place’s info window. Users can also add non-rectangular places using green bordered polygons.

Location tagging can be done in different languages, 64 languages are currently supported by Wikimapia.
